The Guelph Youth Singers will host the 2015 Junior Treble Festival.
Guest choirs from Oakville, Mississauga, Toronto, Hamilton, Halton Hills and Coburg will be at the festival on March 28 at Clearview Christian Reformed Church, in Oakville.
Eight choirs, including the Guelph host choir, will participate in workshops and a concert under the direction of guest clinician Sarah Quartel, a Canadian composer, conductor and educator known for her fresh approach to the choral experience.
She celebrates the musical potential of all learners by providing singers access to high quality repertoire and engaging music education. Her works are performed throughout the world and her curriculum documents are used to connect the excitement of choral festivals with classroom learning.
The day will conclude with a 7pm concert open to the public. Approximately 300 young singers aged 9 to 13 will sing short sets each with their home choir, and join for four songs.
The massed choirs will perform music by Quartel, including, The Beat of a Different Drum. Admission is $15 for adults, and $10 per child at the door. Contact Guelph Youth Singers for more information at 519-821-8574.
