Distracted driving awareness - Six-year-old Parker Bossence of Centre Wellington received an honourable mention certificate from Wellington County Detachment Commander Inspector Scott Lawson for his distracted driving video submitted during the Safe Communities Wellington County Distracted Driving Video Contest. “It is extraordinary that Parker, at six years old, felt compelled to speak up about the dangers of distracted driving,” Lawson said. “ We had to shine a light on him.” In Ontario, deaths from collisions caused by distracted driving have doubled since 2000. Ontario data on collisions from 2013 show that one person is injured in a distracted-driving collision every half hour, and a driver using a phone is four times more likely to crash than a driver focusing on the road. Safe Communities Wellington County works with Wellington County OPP to educate residents of Wellington County on how to keep roads safe and prevent collisions and injuries across all seven municipalities.
