Your Town Rising founders return for downtown celebration

MINTO – The Town of Minto and the local downtown revitalization committees – Harriston Rising, All Aboard Palmerston, and Clifford Connects – have issued an invitation to all to join them in celebrating their downtowns on Sept. 27.

A special presentation by Your Town Rising founders Leslie Fournier and Gregg McLachlan will be held from 6 to 8pm at the Harriston-Minto Community Centre.

In 2019, Fournier and McLachlan visited Harriston and Palmerston “to help ignite a community-wide passion for the beautification and activation of each downtown that continues into the present day,” states an Aug. 24 press release from the municipality.

“Their visit provided insight on different improvements that could be made to local streetscapes, public spaces, businesses, and cultural assets, and culminated in a special presentation attended by the public to kick-start new ideas to promote tourism and local initiatives in Minto,” town officials state.

In 2020, the Town of Minto was successful in receiving Rural Economic Development (RED) funding towards Minto’s “Downtown Rising” projects through OMAFRA and the Province of Ontario.

Over the past two years, this has led numerous downtown projects, including five different murals, entrance sign enhancements, pole wraps, wayfinding signage, street furniture, new lights in Tannery Park and Palmerston Lions Park, downtown speakers, and others.

“Now, in 2022, the downtown revitalization committees are excited to bring Your Town Rising back to celebrate the RED Grant projects and various accomplishments of each committee,” the press release states.

“We’re delighted to be back in Minto to see and hear all of the wonderful initiatives that the communities have put in place over the past few years,” Fournier and McLachlan state.

“[Let’s] get citizens working together to make Minto a must visit destination in the coming seasons and beyond.”
