Your Metal Matters campaign supports Groves hospital foundation

Your Metal Matters offers a chance to clean out the garage and help out the local community.

The Groves Hospital Foundation is bringing back its ‘Your Metal Matters’ campaign for the month of May.

Board member Cheryl Rowe, who is spearheading this project, says the campaign is up and running again this May and September.

The foundation partnered with Bob Vanleeuwen, owner of Fergus Auto Recyclers, in order to fundraise for the new Groves hospital.

Vanleeuwen is providing two bins which will be placed at the foundation’s New to You store at the north end of Fergus on Highway 6.

Donations of scrap metal and recyclables can be made at the New to You  store and at Fergus Auto Recyclers during office hours.

One bin will be for scrap metal over four feet and the other for items under four feet.

Rowe said response to previous campaigns has been overwhelming.

“We will be running the program from May to September as a result of the generosity of Fergus Auto Recyclers.”

Items such as scrap metal, e-waste, old pots, tins, cutlery, wires, tools and small appliances can be brought to both locations.

However, Rowe adds that propane tanks and canisters are not being accepted – but residents are free to bring out old metal lawn furniture, pans, pots and barbecues.

Larger items can still be donated year round at the Fergus Auto Recyclers, Rowe noted. “There’s been complete support from (Vanleeuwen), it’s been absolutely a pleasure that they’ve stepped right in and done this out of the goodness of their hearts,” said Rowe.
