The Ontario Federation of Agriculture (OFA) is supporting the next generation of leaders by sponsoring the annual Canadian Young Speakers for Agriculture (CYSA) competition. OFA is a sponsor for the 30th annual competition at the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair on Nov. 8.
“It’s never been more important for the next generation of agriculture to speak confidently about our agri-food industry,” says OFA president Mark Wales. “We’re proud to contribute to this special event and competition that gives young people a chance to express their passion for agriculture. OFA shares their passion.”
In the annual competition, participants aged 11-24 from across Canada prepare and present five to seven minute speeches in English or French. Participants choose their topic from a list of agriculture-related themes developed by CYSA.
CYSA’s 30th anniversary event will include a reception for past alumni, volunteers, sponsors and participants immediately following this year’s competition.
“We want to have an opportunity for all our stakeholders to celebrate 30 years of public speaking success stories,” says CYSA Chairman Ted Young.
“Many of our past winners and participants have gone on to successful careers in farming, agribusiness and the public sector. We appreciate OFA’s support in making this year’s competition a truly special event.”
