World class musician, Lorne MacDougall comes to Fergus

World class musician Lorne MacDougall will make a quick visit to Fergus on July 18 and will be offering both private and group workshops in bagpipes and whistles.

MacDougall is known for seamlessly integrating his sounds into television and film scores with credits ranging from Brave and How to Train Your Dragon 2, to Doctor Who, Thunderbirds and Whisky Galore as well as many Scottish and Gaelic projects.

His musical talents have brought the attention of luminaries such as Academy Award nominated composer John Powell describing him as being “clearly a hybrid who really does understand the rest of the musical world from the point of view of a being a piper.”

Recently described as “…a great musical tour de force, placing that ancient instrument and it’s music firmly into the second decade of the 21st century” MacDougall is one of Scotland’s leading innovative traditional musicians.

Recent times have seen him achieve a 2012 MG Alba Scots Music Awards Instrumentalist of the Year nomination and previously placed three times in the BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician of the Year final.

Originally from Carradale, Scotland and now based in Glasgow this will be Lorne’s second visit to Fergus following his 2014 tour with Scottish Gaelic singer Joy Dunlop.
