Work will be starting very shortly on a new 1,173 square foot addition at the Drayton Festival Theatre.
Last week, council approved site plan drawings for an addition at the rear of the building that will house a new mechanical room, storage space and a music/orchestra area.
Clerk Patty Sinnamon explained that because the Wellington Street building is located outside the special policy area for downtown Drayton, there are no restrictions from the Grand River Conservation?Authority.
“Further, there is sufficient distance to meet the setback requirements from the theatre property to the neighbouring residential property,” explained Sinnamon.
Since there currently is no buffer between the two properties and no room for even a row of trees or shrubs, Sinnamon recommended a buffer not be required after the construction of the addition.
“The full cost of construction is to be borne by the Drayton?Festival Theatre,” Sinnamon said, adding Melloul-Blamey Construction plans to start construction within a week.
