CENTRE WELLINGTON – The 5th Line Cruden Bridge (24-WG) here has been replaced and re-opened, allowing traffic to move over Irvine Creek.
The previous structure was closed in 2018.
“Reopening this river crossing provides significant benefits to the area’s farmers, residents, and emergency response personnel,” township officials state.
The scope of work included demolition of the existing bridge, road reconstruction/drainage work, and full bridge replacement with a new two-lane structure.
The replacement bridge includes architectural details and a plaque to commemorate the original bridge and will provide a service life of about 90 years.
This project was funded primarily through the township’s dedicated bridge capital levy, with partial funding by the Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund.
An official grand opening ceremony will be planned in the spring of 2024 to acknowledge the completion of this important link in Centre Wellington, township officials say.
