The Wellington County Stewardship Council hosts a woodlot tour every other fall and the next tour is scheduled for Nov. 17 in this area.
The theme for the tour this year is dealing with the emerald ash borer, but a variety of other important woodlot management topics will also be covered.
The Emerald Ash Borer has recently been confirmed in Wellington County. The tour is designed to provide farmers and other woodlot owners some management options to deal with that serious pest. When the emerald ash borer was confirmed in Wellington County, that caused some restrictions on affected woodlot owners.
The tour will also demonstrate good harvesting practices and strategies. Forestry experts and the woodlot owners will be available to answer questions.
The bus will leave Fergus at 9:15am and will return by 3pm.
Organizer Larry Halyk suggests everyone should dress for the weather.
The cost is $10 and that includes a box lunch, resource folder, and the bus trip.
Space is limited so interested people should register by Nov. 12.
The bus leaves from the Centre Wellington Sportsplex (Fergus arena) at 550 Belsyde Avenue. Tour goers should meet at northwest corner of the parking lot.
For more information or to register, contact Halyk at 519-826-4936 or email larry.halyk@ontario.ca.
