October marks Women’s History Month in Canada, an opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate the achievements of Canadian women.
This year, the government of Canada chose Women in the Lead: Winter Sports as the theme, inspired by women and girls who excel in winter Sports, such as those who will represent Canada in the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.
The year 2010 is an exciting one for Girl Guides of Canada as it celebrates its 100th anniversary.
Girl Guides stands for what it has always stood for – fun, friendship, and adventure. Guiding provides diverse activities that offer the chance to be active, discover the outdoors, explore the world and further their education with GGC scholarships.
Chris Burton, Chief Commissioner of Girl Guides, said, “I know that GGC makes a difference in the lives of girls. I have witnessed that in my own life as a Brownie right through to Rangers. I have seen it in the lives of countless young women I have had the pleasure to work with over the past years.”
Girl Guides has an honoured history, much like the many female Canadian Olympians. While girls’ interests have changed dramatically over the last century, Girl Guides constantly evolves to meet their needs and introduces them to opportunities.
Through Guiding, girls gain confidence to grab their opportunity to excel in winter Sports, their career, or whatever path they choose to take. In Guiding, every girl finds endless occasions to learn, grow, and be a part of a winning team of girl greatness.
