Woman charged with arson in “˜suspicious”™ fire

Charges have been laid in connection with the suspicious house fire in Fergus in January.

Mary Jane Curry, 65, of Fergus, has been charged with arson, police announced on March 10. She appeared in bail court that day.

On Jan. 25 at about 4pm, firefighters from Fergus and Elora stations responded to a fire call at a house on Union Street in Fergus.

Centre Wellington Fire Chief Brad Patton said that day that firefighters put out “multiple fires” he deemed “suspicious” and rescued a 65-year-old-women, later identified as the homeowner.

Earlier that day, Paul Curry, 71, was arrested from the same house and charged with two counts of possession of child pornography, one count of accessing child pornography and one count of making child pornography available.

Paul is to appear in bail court on March 22.
