Woman charged in connection with 2023 sudden death investigation

PUSLINCH – A Durham woman has been arrested in connection with a sudden death investigation started by the OPP 18 months ago after a man was found dead in a car.

On Sept. 8, 2023, “a deceased individual was located in a blue sedan along Wellington Road 34,” Wellington County OPP officials stated in a press release at the time.

Five days later police identified the dead person as Juan David Escobar Ortiz, 32, of Kitchener.

However, the OPP did not provide any details about the cause of death, nor did they say if foul play is suspected.

On March 19, the OPP, with the assistance of Waterloo Regional Police, arrested and charged Jessica Bygrave, 25, of Durham, with: indignity to a dead body and theft (under $5,000).

She is to appear in Guelph court on March 27.
