With humidex values on the rise, cooling stations are available in Fergus and Elora

With a heat warning in effect by Environment Canada, the Township would like to remind residents that there are a number of options in Centre Wellington to keep cool during this extended period of hot and humid weather.

– Elora Community Centre.  This location will be open daily from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

– Splash Pads are a great way to cool down in the heat.  Elora offers a splash pad at O’Brien Park, and the Fergus splash pad is located at Millburn Park.  Both of these locations are open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

– The CW Sportsplex.  Although this location is open the Fergus Truck Show is taking place this weekend as well.  If residents prefer to use this location, please notify the parking attendants that you are there strictly to cool down.

– Today (July 21), there is a free public swim at the CW Sportsplex from 2-4 p.m. sponsored by Tim Horton’s.  The Aquatic Centre will be closed from July 22-24 for regular maintenance.

With humidex values approaching 40 degrees at times, please remember to:

– Drink plenty of liquids especially water before you feel thirsty to decrease your risk of dehydration.

– Frequently visit neighbours, friends and older family members, especially those who are chronically ill, to make sure that they are cool and hydrated

– Never leave people or pets in your care inside a parked vehicle or in direct sunlight.

– Heat warnings are issued when very high temperature or humidity conditions are expected to pose an elevated risk of heat illnesses, such as heat stroke or heat exhaustion
