The town’s entire 2014 winter control budget was blown away by harsh weather in the first four months of the year, reports Minto treasurer Gordon Duff.
In a quarterly report to council on June 4, Duff said “weather kind of dominated everything,” in terms of municipal operations so far this year.
He said the town has accomplished “minimal” work on capital projects to date.
“We couldn’t get going on too much … we’ve been plowing snow and working on other things,” Duff explained.
Even with the 2014 winter control budget bumped up to $370,000 after a rough start to the season in 2013, Duff said, the town went over budget – spending about $425,000.
“We’re about $55,000 over and we hope we don’t get snow in November and December. But every municipality is in this boat … we’ll just have to try and keep other things in order,” said Duff.
“Other than the weather-related things, we seem to be fairly on track,” the treasurer pointed out.
