Winners of Insights juried art show announced

The Insights art exhibit will be at the Wellington County Museum and Archives until Sept. 4.

The juried art exhibit consisting of fibre art, photography, paintings, and three-dimensional original works is organized and sponsored by the Elora Arts Council Insights Committee.

The show is in its 38th year and is one of the largest and longest-running art shows in Ontario according to curator Sandu Sindile.

The juried art show winners were announced at the opening reception on June 21 at the museum.

The prize winners include:

– Insights Award to Steven Volpe of Orangeville for his piece called Vigil;

– Ellen Langlands Memorial Award to Stephen Haigh of  Elora for his piece called Flight;

– Elora Arts Council Award to Patrice Baker of Fergus for: Mica Treasure Box Silk Cocoon, Mica Treasure Box Fossilized Shark Vertebrae and Mica Treasured Box Wasp Nest and Snake Skin;

– Painting and Mixed Media to Karin Silverstone of Guelph for W8171;

– Fibre and Material Arts Award to Val Ashbourne of Orangeville for October;

– Photography Award to Thomas King of Guelph for Friends;

– 3-Dimensional Arts Award to Anita Granger of Fergus for Nest;

– Works on Paper Award to Richard Pilon of Eden Mills for sans titre; and

– People’s Choice Award to Judy French of Elora for Painted Rocks II.

The Wellington County Museum and Archives is located on Wellington Road 18 between Fergus and Elora. The galleries are open weekdays from 9:30am to 4:30pm, and on weekends from 1 to 5pm. Admission by donation.
