The Guelph and Wellington Branch of the Architectural Conservancy of Ontario has announced its 2010 Heritage award winners.
Charles Nixon was awarded the Stonehammer award for the exterior restoration of his private home on Kent Street.
Since purchasing it in 2007, he has painstakingly worked to improve the neglected front facade of the house.
It now boasts an historically correct bay window that he designed and built to replicate the one that had been removed by previous owners.
Ben Polley and Jen Woodside were awarded the Gordon Couling award for the restoration and addition to their home on Manitoba Street. They have restored and preserved the heritage elements while incorporating green energy efficient technology into the once- threatened building and ensured it a sustainable future.
The awards were presented by the branch president Susan Ratcliffe, at the Chamber of Commerce Awards of Excellence held in Guelph on June 24.
