Ontario is providing funds to help adults in Wellington North upgrade literacy skills, John Wilkinson, MPP, Perth-Wellington an–nounced on Sept. 24.
His announcement of a grant of $43,320 was on behalf of Minister of Colleges and Universities John Milloy.
“The Wellington County Learning Centre will continue to help clients this year get closer to their personal education, training, or employment goals,” Wilkinson said.
“Ontario is building a highly skilled and educated workforce and this support will help ensure employees can obtain the skills they need to meet the requirements of today’s employers,” he said.
Through support from Ontario’s Literacy and Basic Skills Program, the Wellington County Learning Centre located in Arthur is preparing learners for jobs through a number of initiatives such as academic upgrading, computer training and high school credit preparation.
“Knowing that 88% of future jobs will require a higher degree of literacy, it is imperative that we continue to invest in literacy in order to give adults in Wellington County the opportunity to upgrade their skills and improve the economy,” said Elizabeth Debergh, Executive Director, Wellington County Learning Centre.
