The Wellington Heights Secondary School Grade 12 business leadership class, along with teacher Barb Cowen, is hosting its Warm Winter Wishes fundraiser again this year.
“Warm Winter Wishes is dedicated to assisting children and their families in our community,” organizers state.
“We will work within our community to link those in need of receiving to those with the ability to give. We will put smiles on people’s faces and warmth in their hearts.”
The initiative started in 2002 when the business leadership class in the former Mount Forest District High School formed a non-profit group called Warm Winter Wishes. Students put their business knowledge to the test as they planned, organized and controlled the fundraising activities.
Warm Winter Wishes has grown to support families in and outside of the Mount Forest area.
In 2016, the program raised over $40,000 for families in need in the community, adding to the over $300,000 raised through the program in the last 15 years.
All aspects of the program are run by students, including business, marketing, sales, finance, public relations and purchasing.
The campaign is set to kick off on Nov. 15 and run for four weeks until the winter break.
