WHSS boys varsity soccer team qualify for CWOSSA

MOUNT FOREST – Wellington Heights Secondary School’s (WHSS) boys varsity soccer team had an exciting playoff run this year after finishing the season in fourth place with three wins, three losses, and four ties, for a total of 13 points.

In the semi-finals on Oct. 28, WHSS played Westside Secondary School in Orangeville.

The game was tied after regulation and overtime, and needed to be decided in penalty kicks, where Wellington Heights prevailed with a final score of 4-3.

Goals were scored by Baxter Buckland, Alex Neal, Chase Leask and Pryce Leask.

The Wolverines had not done anything the easy way all season, and the District 4 final was no exception. Coaches Matt McFarlane and Leon McCluskey reported that the Wolverines played an excellent game in Shelburne on Oct. 30 against the Centre Dufferin DHS Royals, but in the end, overtime was needed once again to decide the game.

The Wolverines clawed out a victory in overtime to win the championship, with a score of 2-1.  Goals were scored by Pryce Leask and Madden Brummell.

Wellington Heights has qualified for the CWOSSA Championship tournament, which will be held on May 27 in Erin. Submitted photo
