With just days left before the deadline to file a nomination, Wellington North council is running unopposed.
The deadline for filing is July 27. By press deadline, incumbent Andy Lennox remained the only candidate running for mayor.
Councillors Dan Yake (Ward 1), Sherry Burke (Ward 2), Lisa Hern (Ward 3) and Steve McCabe (Ward 4) are also running unopposed in their wards.
The race heats up for county council. In Ward 3 Campbell Cork of Mount Forest is running against Gary Williamson of Harriston (incumbent).
It’s a four-way race between Ross Chaulk of Kenilworth, Jake Bouwman of Fergus, Penny Renken of Mount Forest and Wayne Baker of Arthur for county council’s Ward 4 seat, after Vinnie Green of Fergus withdrew his nomination July 9.
The municipal elections take place Oct. 22.
School boards
Wellington Catholic District School Board (English Catholic) has three voting regions and six trustee seats. Residents of Wellington North, Minto, Mapleton and Centre Wellington (Wards 1, 3 and 5) will elect one person.
The only nomination filed so far is Andrew Finoro.
Upper Grand District School Board (English Public) has eight voting regions and 10 trustee seats. Residents in Wellington North, Minto and Mapleton will elect one trustee.
Shawn McLeod of Mount Forest is running against Robin Ross of Minto.
Denis Trudel of London is running for a seat on the Conseil Scolaire Viamonde (French Public board). Residents of Wellington (along with residents of Waterloo, Middlesex, Perth and Huron) elect one trustee.
Genevieve Grenier of Kleinburg is running for the Conseil Scolaire de District Catholique Centre-Sud (French Catholic board). Residents of Wellington County (and Dufferin and Peel) elect one trustee.
