Wellington County Warden Chris White and county councillor John Green have been re-elected to the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) board of directors. The two men were elected Aug. 21 at the annual AMO conference in Ottawa. Green, who represents Mapleton on county council, is one of five members representing the county caucus and has been on the AMO board since 2009. White is one of six members representing AMO’s rural caucus.
The AMO board of directors is made up of elected municipal officials and staff from all regions and communities in Ontario. The board meets to discuss key municipal issues, sets policy priorities, and serves as a support system for municipalities, bringing forward their messages to the provincial government.
“I look forward to continuing to tackle the important issues facing rural communities in Ontario,” stated Green.
In addition to his duties on county council, Green’s political experience includes over 30 years of municipal government experience. He has been Wellington County warden three times, is a former Mayor of Mapleton, past chair of the board of health and was appointed to an Advisory Committee on Rural Planning by the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA) for four years.
“John has served the residents of Mapleton and the county very well for many years,” commented White. “He brings a lot of political experience to the AMO board of directors.”
On his own re-election to the board, White stated, “I look forward to continuing AMO’s important work for rural Ontario. I believe that, more than ever before, rural Ontario needs to stand together to project a strong, unified voice. I am very proud to advocate for Ontario and Wellington residents.”
In addition to his duties as Wellington warden White is currently the mayor of Guelph/Eramosa Township, past chair of the Rural Ontario Municipal Association (ROMA) and has been a representative on the OMAFRA Panel on Rural Policy Board and the Rural Ontario Institute (ROI).
“I’d like to congratulate Warden White on his election to the AMO board of directors’ rural caucus. He has served the county very well,” commented Wellington CAO Scott Wilson. “He brings a fresh perspective and a lot of rural political experience to the table.”
AMO is a non-profit organization representing almost all of the 445 municipalities in Ontario. AMO provides a variety of services and products to members and non-members.
