WELLINGTON NORTH –The third meeting of the West Luther 4-H Field Crops Club was held on June 20, at Matt Coffey’s Farm outside of Arthur.
Matt is a Pioneer Seed sales rep, and he sells corn, soybean and wheat seed to farmers.
Members split into two groups. At one station Matt taught the group about growing soybeans.
At the second station members judged hay, shoes, grain and masks, then had pancakes for a snack. The flour in the pancakes was made from Ontario wheat.
The meeting was closed with the 4-H motto, “Learn to do by doing.”
Fourth meeting
On July 11, the West Luther 4-H Field Crops Club held its fourth meeting at the Bayer Crop Science Ennotville Research Farm.
The meeting was opened with the 4-H pledge.
Members welcomed guest speakers Andrew Dornan and Todd Woodhouse.
With members split into two groups, Todd gave a demonstration on soil structure and Andrew talked about different types of crop pests.
The meeting was closed and the group had pizza for a snack.
The next meeting will be on Aug. 22 at Cedarwood Honey.
