HILLSBURGH – The grand finale of the Wellington County Library TD Summer Reading Club is a family-friendly festival of words.
The Hillsburgh branch will host Wellington Word Fest on Aug. 17 from 12 to 4pm. The free event will allow participants to play with both high- and low-tech toys.
Step into the story with the magic of a green screen photo booth and then teach kids how to use a rotary phone or a typewriter.
Fish for a prize in the alphabet pond, learn to write in hieroglyphics and even create your own quill pen to take home.
Plus, there are special guests expected on the outdoor stage:
– The Making-Box. A talented comedy improv troupe who will invite you to step into the story and find the funny.
– TorQ Percussion Quartet. One of Canada’s première percussion ensembles, TorQ makes music that spans generations and geography.
– Author Jess Keating. A zoologist, illustrator and award-winning author, Jess Keating has been sprayed by skunks, bitten by crocodiles, and fallen victim to the dreaded paper cut.
She will be taking participants for a walk on the wild side with stories about curiosity, bravery and fascinating creatures.
Word Fest is partnering with the Hillsburgh Spirit of the Hills Family Fun Day, with the celebrations happening a short walk from each other.
