The Wellington Terrace Family Council is hosting an upcoming educational session for families caring for a loved one with dementia.
This marks the eighth year the council has hosted an educational session, and the third year on the topic of dementia care, but this year the team will be building on previous sessions.
Guest speaker Terri Adlam, a Waterloo Wellington psychogeriatric resource consultant, will help families gain important communication skills and strategies when supporting a loved one with dementia, organizers state.
“Wellington Terrace is very pleased to open our doors for this event once again to family members caring for a loved one with a dementia,” said Laura Holtom, Wellington Terrace administrator.
The event is free of charge and will be held at: Wellington Terrace, 474 Wellington Road 18, Aboyne, adjacent to the Wellington County Museum and Archives, on May 3 from 1:30 to 3:30pm
“As a family member, I was able to support my dad more effectively when I had a better understanding of his illness, and had some practical communication strategies to ensure our visits were meaningful,” commented Sheila Turner, Wellington Terrace Family Council chair.
