FERGUS – The Upper Grand District School Board (UGDSB) held a skills photography contest on March 28, with students from many high schools competing.
The students were first asked to take and edit 15 photographs that encompassed the theme “On the move.”
They were then asked to participate in a mystery object challenge where the students had to include the object in their photographs.
The mystery object the students were given was the Canadian flag.
Ethan B. from Westside Secondary School won first place, Breanna C. from Erin District High School finished second and Addy D. from Centre Wellington District High School was third.
Ethan B. and Breanna C. will now go on to represent the UGDSB at the Skills Ontario Provincial competition in Toronto in May.
Professional Photographer Chantel Dirksen, who judged the photos, stated, “I was quite impressed with Ethan’s composition and editing of his photographs. All of his images were sharp, in focus and told a story.

Erin District High School Student Breanna C took and edited the photo above as part of an Upper Grand District School Board photography contest, in which she placed second.
“Breanna’s event photos with the different lighting was really special and well done. Her photograph of the Canadian flag was unique and very artistic.
“Addy took some beautiful still images and I was impressed by her shattered glass image.”
