Portion of road closed after three separate crashes on Thursday

MAPLETON – A Mapleton man is dead following a serious crash on Thursday on Wellington Road 12 near Glen Allan.

A portion of the road was closed after three separate crashes in the area involving a total of eight vehicles.

Wellington County OPP officials say emergency crews responded to the initial scene, between Wellington Roads 45 and 86, on March 6 at about 11:30am.

“As a result of the collision and poor weather conditions, Wellington Road 12 will be closed from Wellington Road 86 to Wellington Road 8,” police stated in a press release.

In an update police stated “a 34-year-old from Mapleton Township was pronounced deceased at the scene.

“No other injuries were reported.”

Police stated “the identity of the deceased individual will not be released out of respect for the family’s privacy.”

The initial OPP press release referred to just one crash, but police spokesperson Matthew Burton later told the Advertiser there were three separate collisions in the area – two involving three vehicles and one involving two vehicles.

“The investigation is ongoing, and police are asking the public to please avoid the area,” the OPP stated.
