Wellington Rifles to hold change of command Oct. 25

The 1882 Wellington Rifles Royal Canadian Army Cadet Corps will hold a change of command ceremony on Oct. 25 on the parade square at the Canadian Forces Armoury, at 7 Wyndham Street South here.

The current Commanding Officer, Captain Alan K. Miller, CD is stepping down, having completed his three year term.

The new Commanding Officer will be Captain Wendy B. Hamilton, formerly the Second in Command and the Administration Officer.

The Presiding Officer at the ceremony will be Captain Michael Schotsch CD, the Operations Officer for the 11th Field Regiment, Royal Canadian Artillery.

The cadets will be inspected by the Presiding Officer and the incoming Commanding Officer an will then march past the audience and Presiding Officer.

That will be followed by a formal signing of the change of command certificates and the transfer of the Commanding Officer’s sword and corps flag. The cadets, under the new Commanding Officer, will then march past a second time.

The event starts at 7:50pm and the public is welcome to attend. Guests should be seated by 7:35pm. There will be a reception in the Officers’ Mess following the ceremony.

Army Cadets are the oldest youth movement in Canada, being founded in 1862. Cadets Canada, consisting of Army, Air, and Sea cadets, is the largest federally sponsored youth program in Canada. It is a national program for your Canadians ages 12 to 18 who are interested in participating in a variety of challenging and rewarding activities and learning more about the Canadian Forces.

Over 54,000 Cadets (20,000 Army Cadets) and 5,000 instructors participate across the country.
