FERGUS – On Nov. 2, Wellington County councillor Mary Lloyd, Wellington Pregnancy Care Centre board chair Matt Whittaker and executive director Joanne Pronk cut the ribbon of the new facility at 280 St. Patrick St. W. in Fergus.
The organization, which helps women during and after an unexpected pregnancy, shares the basement of the Community Living building with The Door Youth Centre.
After months of helping women through phone calls and delivering needed items, the centre’s director is meeting with clients face-to-face again.
“The pandemic is a difficult time for all of us, and especially for those who experience extra challenges like an unplanned pregnancy,” officials said in a press release.
The centre is open by appointment only on Monday and Thursday from 11am to 4pm and Wednesday from 9am and 2pm.
Since 2017 women in Wellington, their partners and families have used the services of the Wellington PCC during and after an unexpected pregnancy.
“We offer free pregnancy tests and non-judgmental information on all your options and a wide range of free items, like diapers and formula, used baby and maternity clothing and strollers,” Pronk said.
“We also offer post-abortion support for those women who want to talk about their abortion experience.”
During the pandemic the centre provided the Centre Wellington Foodbank with diapers, wipes and formula, but now clients can make an appointment to come and pick up items they need for their families at the new office.
