Wellington Place Child Care set to open in September

ABOYNE – The Wellington Place Child Care and Learning Centre will open on Sept. 3, the county has announced.

The new child care centre is located on the Wellington Place campus in Aboyne, across from the Wellington Terrace Long Term Care Home. This project was undertaken with capital funds from the Ministry of Education and the County of Wellington.

Designed by the VG architectural firm, the new $3.7-million dollar child care and learning centre offers 64 spaces for children in Wellington County from birth to four years of age.

“The County of Wellington is pleased to announce an opening date for the new Wellington Place Child Care and Learning Centre,” said Warden Kelly Linton.

“This centre will provide 64 much needed child care spaces to support many families across Wellington County to participate in the labour force or educational activities.”

There are currently 200 children on the waiting list. County staff will be calling parents and guardians currently on the list during the week of June 24 to confirm their space. Only families who have secured a space in the program for the Sept. 3 opening date will be contacted.

“The physical design of this centre focuses on the importance of relationships between children, families, educators and the community, while exploring the beautiful natural setting this location offers,” stated Luisa Artuso, director of the county’s Children’s Early Years division. “Promoting a sense of belonging and freedom to explore is critical to healthy growth and development in the early years,”
