Wellington North Youth Action Council celebrates one year

The Wellington North Youth Action Council (YAC) is celebrating its first birthday and is inviting the public to celebrate.

YAC is made up of local youth volunteers aged 13 to 24 with a passion for creating change in their community.

The group plans events, workshops and initiatives for youth in Mount Forest, Arthur, Kenilworth and surrounding areas.

With the support of Wellington North Township, Mount Forest Chamber of Commerce and North for Youth, individuals came together as a group to discuss the issues facing youth in our community and what could be done to help.

Vision statement

This led to the development of its vision statement “to establish more opportunities for youth involvement in Wellington North so as to create a safe and empowering community that reflects a positive perception of youth.”

The group has created a welcoming and safe space for youth, established community partnerships, planned workshops for youth and adults and developed a relationship with Wellington North council on issues important to youth.

Involvement

Over the past year, YAC has been involved in an outdoor movie night, gingerbread house competition, North Wellington Youth Connections Day, YACtivities, and more.

Celebration

The one year anniversary was celebrated with pizza, cake and video games on July 10 from 3 to 6pm at Game Over Lounge (392 Main St. N, Mount Forest).

“This will be a great opportunity to meet YAC members and Adult Allies as well as learn how to get involved,” officials state. “

We are always looking for new members and community partners to work with.”
