Wellington North to discuss fate of $46,000 downtown revitalization fund

Wellington North council will hold a discussion session with stakeholders to decide what to do with $46,185 from the province for downtown revitalization initiatives.

Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs announced $26 million in funding in late January.

The funds must be invested in revitalization activities to support small businesses on main streets, stated a July 23 report from economic development officer Dale Small.

He added the money could be spent on the following initiatives already in place in Wellington North: community improvement plan, Renew Northern Wellington Arts and Business Association, business retention and expansion program, downtown beautification, vacancy rebate program, the Roger Brooks assessment, downtown destination development, development charge rebates in the  central intensification corridor or Saugeen Connects.

The working group discussion between council, township staff, Arthur and Mount Forest chambers and building and business owners in downtowns will be held on Aug. 28 from 6 to 8pm.

“I’m hoping that by facilitating this process, we can maybe come up with something to the betterment of both of our communities,” said Small.
