Wellington North is asking people to “keep calm and slam the door on scams.”
In a release, the township is informing people of their rights when it comes to door-to-soor sales. The township says:
– never let anyone in your home;
– ask for identification and take a picture of it for future reference;
– never sign anything on the spot, do your research;
– read the fire print; and
– never share personal information or copies of any bills or financial statements.
The township also reminds people that a contract may be cancelled for any reason within 10 days and a contract for a water heater can be cancelled for any reason within 20 days.
If you feel threatened/harassed or a sales person refuses to leave when requested, call a family member, neighbour or the OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
