Wellington North mayor featured at conference

Wellington North Mayor Raymond Tout spoke at the Ontario Good Roads Association and Rural Ontario Municipal Association combined conference here last week.

Tout was part of a session focusing on municipal emergency management responses.

He shared his experience hosting 204 forest fire evacuees from the Sandy Lake First Nation last July after forest fires ravaged their community.

Tout presented along  with Goderich Mayor Delbert Shewfelt who told the story of a tornado last August in that community, and Mayor Joanne Vanderheyden, of Strathroy-Caradoc, who spoke about the Highway 402 snow storm in December of 2010.

Wellington North was lauded at the time for its generosity and organization in hosting the First Nations community and making its members feel at home during their stay.
