Though Wellington North’s salaries were just over $10,000 less than budgeted for 2010, the overall costs for council, mileage, and conventions still amounted to $116,571.
That amount is roughly $3,000 lower than overall costs in 2009, but still up from the year prior.
On March 21, councillors here reviewed Treasurer John Jeffrey’s statement of council remuneration and expenses.
Overall figures are difficult to compare because councillors are paid a base salary and per diem for meetings attended. In addition, councillors are reimbursed for mileage and convention expenses.
Total salaries, mileage, and convention expenses were below budget for 2010.
Council salaries and per diems were expected to come in at $110,000, actual expenses came in at $99,972.
Topping the list was former mayor Mike Broomhead, with a bill of just over $31,942 – $15,474 (base salary), $14,250 (per diem), $888 (mileage), and $1,329 (Ontario Good Roads Association convention).
Next was councillor Dan Yake at $23,827 – $11,254; $7,650, $990 $1,158 (OGRA convention), and $2,545.81 (WEFTEC Water Environment Federation), and $228 (Ontario West Municipal Conference – OWMC).
Councillor Bob Mason earned $20,073 with a $10,316, $7,800 $798 (mileage), and $1,158 (OGRA).
Councillor Ross Chaulk earned $16,265; $10,316, $4,050, $741, and $1,158 (OGRA).
Councillor John Matusinec collected $17,816 – $10,316, $3,875, $741, $1,211 (OGRA), and $1,672 (American Water Works Association).
New council
Newly elected councillors also started on the payroll following their election late last year.
In his first few months on council, Mayor Ray Tout earned $3,126 – $1,406 (base), $450 (per diem), $374 (mileage) $559 (an AMO seminar) and $335.80 (OWMC)
Mark Goetz was paid $1,307 – $937 and $369 (OWMC).
Andy Lennox earned slightly less at $1,270 – $937 (base) and $335 (OWMC)
Coming in with the least expense was Sherry Burke at $937, as she claimed only her base salary, but no per diem costs, mileage or convention expenses.
