Like other local municipalities, Wellington North has reappointed Norm Gamble as its meeting investigator.
Investigations would be related to meetings or parts of meetings that are closed to the public to determine compliance with the Municipal Act and the township’s procedural bylaw.
Councillor Andy Lennox initially questioned the move since, under the Act, while the municipality has the option to appoint someone, if it opts out, the provincial ombudsman would take over that role for no charge.
Mayor Ray Tout said he understood that it would be done at no charge, however, Gamble works with many municipalities in Wellington County.
“He came highly recommended.”
Lennox still asked why council would make the appointment as compared to the ombudsman.
“If someone could inform me of that reason, that would be wonderful.”
Tout said that Gamble is highly recommended and very thorough, based on past performances.
As well, Tout said Gamble is very up to date on regulations of municipal meetings.
Council subsequently endorsed the appointment.
