WELLINGTON COUNTY – In October, the Wellington County Junior Farmers hosted a roast beef supper to raise money and food donations for local food banks.
The club unsure how popular this event was going to be, was surprised by its success.
With 70 meals served that night, the group was able to raise $800 and a large pile of actual food donations.
The monetary amount was then distributed evenly between Arthur, Centre Wellington, Drayton and Palmerston food-banks, and the food donations went to the Drayton food-bank.
The night’s success would not have been possible without the help from Holmes Agro, Conestogo Agri-Systems Inc., Marspan Home Hardware Building Centre, Norwell Dairy Systems Ltd. and JD. Swied Foods.
Wellington Junior Farmers would also like to thank the Christian Reformed Church of Drayton for allowing it the use of their kitchen for the community supper.
Wellington Junior Farmers is also looking for new members. If you are between the ages of 15-29, email: wellingtonjuniorfarmers@gmail.com to learn more.
The next meeting was held Jan. 9 at the Drayton Agricultural Hall.
