MOUNT FOREST – Defending Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations (OFSAA) silver medalist Victoria Herrington from Wellington Heights Secondary School, qualified again and advanced to the OFSAA provincial tennis championship this year in Toronto from June 5 to 7.
Ranked seventh out of 26 players heading into this year’s tournament, Herrington was gunning for a gold medal after an incredible OFSAA silver medal finish last year as a Grade 11 student.
Herrington quickly defeated a representative from the Toronto District Catholic Athletic Association by a score of 8-0 in Round 1.
She followed by winning against her next opponent 8-3, catapulting Herrington into the quarter finals.
Unfortunately, Herrington lost when facing her fourth, hard-fought contest, and her opponent went on to win the OFSAA silver medal.
The loss moved Herrington on to the consolation side of the tournament.
At a competitive tennis tournament featuring the best female tennis players in the province, officials say Herrington played extremely well and represented Wellington Heights professionally, respectfully and with outstanding sportsmanship.
Herrington heads to Spring Arbor University in Michigan next year to study criminal justice and to pursue her career in tennis.
