Like clues on the latest CSI case, information is trickling in on the new forensics unit for Mount Forest.
On Monday night, Wellington North Mayor Mike Broomhead shared recent correspondence from Vas Georgiou, of Infrastructure Ontario, on the modernization project.
The letter, directed to Broomhead stated, “As you know, the Ontario government has recently announced that it will be proceeding with an OPP modernization project, which will involve construction of 16 new OPP facilities across the province.
“Mount Forest will receive a new Ontario Provincial Police Forensic Identification Unit.”
The letter was to inform the municipality of the next steps involved in the project.
Georgiou said Infrastructure Ontario is a crown corporation that manages some of the province’s larger and more complex infrastructure renewal projects.
“The advantage of including the 30-year building maintenance agreement in the contract is that it provides a strong incentive to the successful consortium to construct a high quality functional facility that can be maintained efficiently, providing public sector value for money in both the short and long term.”
Georgiou wrote that the next steps include the submission of schematic site plans to the municipality by its consultants before the consortium is picked and final drawings are developed.
Once the consortium is chosen, it will submit completed drawings about 12 months after the initial submission.
“We plan on working closely with your municipality throughout the process to ensure that the new OPP facility complies with all required municipal stipulations.
“This project will create construction jobs and economic spinoffs that will benefit your entire community.”
Broomhead said that it may not seem like much information, but it shows that the project is moving ahead.
