County interested in purchasing Guelph properties from Catholic school board

GUELPH – The County of Wellington is interested in purchasing three properties here from the Wellington Catholic District School Board.

A bylaw to authorize the purchase of 59, 69, and 75 Woolwich Street in Guelph was approved by Wellington County council at its June 30 meeting.

The three properties, owned by the school board are located across the street from the county’s administration centre.

A motion to pass the bylaw was approved without discussion at the council meeting.

In response to an email from the Advertiser, county clerk Donna Bryce replied the school board “is considering consolidating its board office property holdings at 59, 69 and 75 Woolwich Street.

“The County of Wellington has expressed an interest in the properties, however, a final agreement between the county and the school board is not in place and, as such, no details are being made public at this time,” Bryce states in the email.

The bylaw delegates to the county CAO the authority to “negotiate and finalize amendments to the agreement relating to closing matters, including extensions or matters not relating to the purchase price and to execute on behalf of the county all authorizations, directions and other closing documents as may be necessary to effect the conveyance of the land.”
