The County of Wellington has officially opened three Level 3 vehicle charging stations in Arthur, Puslinch and Guelph after receiving $215,076 in funding from Ontario’s Electric Vehicle Grant Program.
Funding for this project comes from the province in support of its Climate Change Action Plan.
The province is working with public and private sector partners to create a network of nearly 500 fast-charging electric vehicle stations in over 250 locations across Ontario. This network of charging stations will help tackle greenhouse gas emissions from the transportation sector, states a May 15 press release from the county.
The Level 3 charging stations, also known as direct current fast chargers (DCFCs), use a 480-volt system that allows drivers to charge electric vehicle batteries up to 80% in approximately 30 minutes.
These stations charge approximately eight times faster than Level 2 charging stations.
“Investing in these charging stations has strengthened Wellington County’s sustainable infrastructure and provided more environmental options to our communities,” said Warden Dennis Lever.
“We are very pleased to be working with the Government of Ontario on this project, and to be continuing Wellington County’s commitment to environmental initiatives.”
The new charging stations are located at the Puslinch library (29 Brock Road South), the Arthur library – medical centre (110 Charles Street) and the Guelph-Wellington Social Services office (138 Wyndham Street North in Guelph).
All Wellington County charging stations will be free to use until July 1.
