WELLINGTON COUNTY – The county began reviewing its transportation network by launching a Road Master Action Plan (RMAP) study in January and is engaging with the public in a second and final round on June 17.
Coined “County roads connecting communities,” the county is looking to 2041, studying improvements required for population growth, traffic and spent management issues, funding, and planning for county roads connecting and travelling through municipalities.
The last undertaking of its kind, the Guelph Wellington Transportation Study, was completed in 2005.
Much work has been done by the county since, examining active transportation, development, passing lanes along with road, and bridge environmental assessments.
Centre Wellington completed its transportation master plan in 2019 and Guelph is aiming to have its completed in the fourth quarter of this year. The province also released its own transportation plan for southwestern Ontario last year.
On June 17, the public can participate in a virtual Zoom meeting, from 7 to 830pm, which will look at different ways to travel through the county, how to improve roads with an eye on safety, future long-range needs, and how to better manage traffic in urban areas.
A presentation will be given with opportunity for discussion after.
“This will be the only community meeting held for direct engagement with the project team before the master project plan is completed, so please attend to have your voices heard,” the county’s website states.
An implementation plan is slotted for August and a final report in November.
