Wellington Catholic raises $55,000 for local organizations

GUELPH – The Wellington Catholic District School Board has tallied the total funds raised at the 16th Annual Bishop’s Dinner For Community Needs.

Five local organizations will be the beneficiaries of $55,000 raised this year to be shared across the community, just in time for Christmas.

The organizations include; Children’s Foundation of Guelph Wellington, Ignatius Jesuit Centre Sacred Ground Campaign, Kids Ability Centre for Child Development, the Guelph Lake Interpretive Centre, and the Welcome In Drop In Centre. The special evening was marked by a silent auction, raffle and dinner. Student trustees addressed the 500 attendees and shared their personal experience of what their Catholic education means to them.

“We often say, Wellington Catholic begins with ‘We’,” said director of education Tamara Nugent. “We are delighted to be a community that instills hope through giving, especially during the Christmas season.

“The generosity of our sponsors and attendees is outstanding. It is a testament to how we care for one another.”

Board chair Marino Gazzola said distributing the funds was a great way to finish the year.

The Annual Bishop’s Dinner for Community Needs has a strong legacy having raised $675,733 contributing to mental health supports, compassionate care, mentor programs, care for the environment and children with disabilities.
