It has been nearly ten years since amalgamation, and that means township boundary signs are becoming worn out.
Councillor Jim Curry asked about the signs at council on Sept. 8.
Clerk Patty Sinnamon said the township has three proposals for the signs, and the Rotary Club also wants to offer comment. Curry asked if the large boundary signs will be removed.
Director of Public Works Larry Lynch said some of the signs have blown down, but others are “in decent shape.” He told council he will drive the boundary areas and check them.
“If you can’t read them, they’re not doing us much good,” Lynch said. He noted the signs that get a lot of direct sunlight tend to fade.
Councillor Mike Downey said, “A bunch of them have been redone.” That surprised Lynch, who said, “We’ve not paid anything,” and added he has seen no bills for work.
“Maybe the Sign Fairy is out there,” he added.
Councillor Bruce Whale said the sign near Macton is so faded, “you couldn’t read it.”
Downey noted the boundary sign located near Arthur was blown down, and lamented, “it was the best one we had. It was clean, and it got no sun.”
Lynch said the sign at Wellington Construction near Teviotdale is also in good condition. He will be preparing a report on all the signs.
