Council has again supported the Mapleton Historical Society with a donation of $2,000.
There was little discussion on April 13 in response to a request from the society’s secretary, Lori Flewwelling, who provided a summary of the group’s activities over the last 365 days.
“During the course of the past year we had a well received display at the farm show and the July 1 celebration, a very successful annual meeting last May, continued the photographing and recording of the barns in the township and at present have 11 family and 12 individual memberships,” Flewwelling told council in a letter.
She added local citizens continue to come forward with documents and artifacts related to the township’s history and the society is in the process of cataloguing those materials.
Council unanimously approved the donation of $2,000, which makes up a large portion of the society’s $3,575 budget.
