The global recession has had little impact on the municipality’s ability to collect taxes – at least not yet.
On May 12 finance director Mike Givens presented to council a report that failed to show a huge difference in outstanding taxes owed as of the end of April for 2008 and 2009.
“I think it’s a good indicator of a strong local economy,” Givens said of the report, which includes the township, county and education portions of tax bills.
For this year, there remains $121,315 in taxes owing after the March installment, with $526,477 owing from previous years.
For 2008, those figures were $71,079 and $545,647 respectively.
