WEB ONLY: Celebrating community giving at the Investors Group Walk for Alzheimer”™s 2018

When a community comes together in support of one another, we can do great things.

The 2018 Investors Group Walk for Alzheimer’s took place May 27 in Kitchener/ Waterloo, Guelph, Cambridge and Mount Forest.

The Alzheimer Society Waterloo Wellington raised nearly $100,000 thanks to the support of the communities and hundreds of walkers.

“We could not be more proud of, or grateful for, the way that our community stepped up to help people living with Alzheimer’s and dementia, and their families,” organizers stated.

These funds allow the Alzheimer Society Waterloo Wellington to:

– provide personalized music playlists to individuals living with dementia, sparking joy and memories;

– provide one-on-one counselling to people with dementia and family care partners;

– host fun social and recreational activities, like the Minds in Motion program and Peer Connections group;

– offer educational training to families impacted by dementia, as well as healthcare professionals and community members; and

– empower businesses to become dementia-friendly through the Dementia-Friendly Communities Program.

All of the programs and services are offered at low- or no-cost to the community.

There are 564,000 Canadians currently living with dementia, with 13,500 of them living in the Waterloo Wellington region.

Dementia is the most significant cause of disability among Canadians over 65 years of age. It is Alzheimer Society Waterloo Wellington’s mission to support as many of these individuals and their families as possible.
