WELLINGTON COUNTY – Sixty-one new COVID-19 cases were reported across the Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health (WDGPH) region over the weekend.
That marks a slight increase from the previous weekend count (54) and active cases in the region (149) are up for the second week in a row (135 cases last week and 123 two weeks ago).
WDGPH’s latest case rate per 100,000 population is 39.1 and its test positivity rate is 2.0%.
A week ago those figures were 34.9 and 1.7% respectively (two weeks ago they were 23.1 and 1.3%).
County trends
Wellington County had 12 new cases over the weekend and now has 27 active cases, up from 22 a week ago (19 two weeks ago).
The county’s seven-day average for daily cases, which is often used to indicate trends, is now 3.57, up from 2.43 last week (2.0 two weeks ago).
Dufferin County now has 43 active cases, down from 49 one week ago, while Guelph has 74, up from 60.

Outbreaks
There is currently just one facility outbreak in the WDGPH region: at Headwaters Health Care Centre in Orangeville (two patients, one staff, declared on March 23).
Public health defines an outbreak as one or more confirmed cases of COVID-19 within a facility (long-term care home, retirement home or hospital).
An outbreak is declared over 14 days after symptoms began in the most recent case and when no other cases are suspected.
