GUELPH – Wellington Catholic District School Board (WCDSB) hosted its inaugural secondary district chess tournament on March 6 at the Catholic Education Centre.
Following a lengthy tradition of hosting the district elementary chess tournament, which sees over 200 students from each WCDSB elementary school competing for titles in their respective grades, Our Lady of Lourdes (OLOL) Catholic High School student senator Kellyanne Mangali spearheaded the development of a Secondary District Chess Tournament.
The tournament welcomed students from St. James, Bishop Macdonell, and OLOL Catholic high schools for a full-day chess tournament.
Over 35 students participated throughout three divisions, Junior (Grades 9 and 10), Senior (Grades 11 and 12), and Rookie (students from any grades who have never played in a formal chess tournament).
