Watermaker: ‘Better Water. Better Life.’

This perfect catchphrase belongs to a company who has been giving our local water a makeover for half a century. And it is needed! This area has some of the hardest water in the country. Not something to boast about, since it’s an issue that has long presented a variety of challenges. Not to worry! Since 1974, Watermaker Orangeville & Fergus have specialized in all aspects of water treatment.

The water treatment industry has undergone a lot of changes and improvements over the years. Watermaker is proud to be at the forefront of the industry, well positioned to recommend, install, and maintain the different water treatment options available to local homeowners. From iron removal to bottled water delivery, Watermaker has you covered.

Remarkable advances in technology allow for more convenience, enhanced reliability, and unquestionable efficiency when it comes to treating the water in our homes. Whole-home water purification systems are Wi-Fi enabled, providing additional layers of protection for your home and family. Hydrolink™ products keep you in the loop with emergency alerts and notifications, such as when it’s time to change the filter, or to let you know about a water leak somewhere in your home. Watermaker’s whole home systems can even reduce the impact on the environment by providing you with the freshest tasting water right from your tap. No further need for plastic bottles!

But, whether replacing an old system or installing for the first time, what might be your best options? Is your water source city or well? How do you know you’re installing a unit that will suit you and your lifestyle? What about maintenance? Price point? Operation? All these things need to be considered. But fear not! Watermaker has all the solutions and answers, backed up by a half-century of successful industry experience.

Let’s first take a look at what might be coming out of our taps, how to recognize possible issues, and how to treat or eliminate them.

Hard water. Common indicators of hard water include white staining on tubs, showers and sinks, and opaque build-up on glassware. The residual build-up can damage plumbing and household appliances. It can also dry out your skin and steal the shine and bounce from your hair. Of course, when it comes to treatment, the first thing that comes to mind is a water softener. EcoWater softeners, by the way, use less water and less salt! Definitely something to consider.

Iron. It can exist in our water supply in varying quantities, and it doesn’t take much to make itself known to the homeowner. Does your water have a yellowish, brown, or red tinge? A metallic taste? If so, iron is the likely culprit. In fact, it only takes ½ part per million to cause yellow, brown, or red staining. An iron filtration system is recommended if your iron level reaches 2 or more parts per million. Less than that can likely be handled by a good water softener without affecting the unit itself.

Drinking water. Surely the most important thing of all is to be sure that your drinking water meets not only local standards, but yours as well. Ordinary tap water might travel through a variety of channels on its way to your glass or your water jug. It may contain traces of dissolved metals, as well as nitrates, chlorine and mineral salts. Other undesirable substances could include sulfates, mercury, asbestos and arsenic.

So, how can you get cleaner, clearer drinking water? Let’s have a look at a couple of systems: Reverse Osmosis and UV Sterilization systems.

EcoWater Drinking Water Systems and Reverse Osmosis systems will provide you with water ideal for your tea and coffee, baby formula, ice cubes, cooking, juice concentrates, house plants, and steam iron. Household water is first directed through a prefilter to remove sediment, chlorine taste and odor, and particulate matter. This water is then forced through a semi-permeable membrane where a high percentage of the dissolved solids are rejected and flushed to the drain. The filtered water is reserved in the storage tank until needed, and there is an additional block filter that further removes tastes and odors before going to the faucet. It’s worth mentioning that some RO systems discard about three times the water they filter. EcoWater Systems have a one-to-one ratio, so less waste, which is always a good thing!

UV Water Sterilization Systems is an attractive chemical-free option. UV light is used to sterilize bacteria and viruses in an effective way to ensure safe water. It’s crucial, if you’re considering the installation of an ultraviolet system, to consult an experienced company like Watermaker. Certain determinations must be made according to the customer’s needs. An improperly sized system might allow untreated water past the sterilizer into the drinking water in your home.

In summation, when looking for the experts on water treatment systems, look no further than the Watermaker team. It’s what they do and what they’ve been doing for half a century.
