Water Watchers mark World Water Day

GUELPH – The Wellington Water Watchers noted World Water Day on March 22 by putting up a billboard on Gordon Street in Guelph, not far from the Nestlé Waters Canada site in Aberfoyle.

The billboard, by Toronto-based artist Lanny Shereck, depicts a solo canoeist on a lake entitled, “Don’t let Nestlé take this away.”

Nestlé Waters Canada’s water extraction does not literally drain a local lake, Shereck stated in a press release.

Rather, the painting and words together refer to what he calls the environmental damage caused water extraction companies and the broad impact it has on all water systems, he explained.

“… depleting and destabilizing our precious and beautiful Ontario waters and littering our waterways and oceans with plastic bottles. This metaphorical image is a reminder of what we stand to lose,” the press release states.

The group will install a new billboard image from a different artist with each change of season.
